SYMPOÏÉTIQUES : LE PARTAGE DE L’AGIR ET DE L’AUTONOMIE

Le titre de cette première édition des Rencontres interdisciplinaires de Hexagram renvoie au néologisme créé par la Canadienne Beth Dempster (1998) pour proposer une solution de rechange aux analyses d’urbanisme centrées sur le concept d’autopoïèse. Le symposium se pense sous ce concept clé de la distribution et du partage, comme élaboré par la suite par Donna Haraway (2016) : le sujet autonome est une fiction, l’autonomie, comme l’agir d’ailleurs, n’existent que par, avec et dans le partage entre de multiples forces, matérialités, processus et entités, humaines et autres. La relation, le partage, la co-extension sont ces processus sympoïétiques.

L’organisation pratique du symposium sera elle-même sympoïétique, une mise en commun entre les organisateurs, organisatrices, les publics et les participant.e.s. universitaires et artistiques qui oseront s’y risquer. Dans cette foulée, la plateforme numérique souhaite excéder la diffusion en adoptant des modalités participatives. Comme beaucoup, il nous est difficile d’endosser l’idée selon laquelle la « distanciation sociale » serait la solution pour freiner la propagation de la pandémie du COVID-19. Il est alors nécessaire et urgent d’inventer de nouveaux moyens de pratiquer la solidarité sociale, quand bien même la distanciation physique humaine s’impose à tousTes (et à juste titre). Potentiellement entre deux vagues, et donc deux confinements, il importe d’insister sur la nécessité de créer à nouveau, dans les interstices troublés et troublants et avec les autres actants qui peuplent cette planète. En confinement, une bonne partie des vies s’exprime par le numérique : cette pandémie est aussi une pandémie informationnelle. Aujourd’hui donc, l’accent est mis sur la co-extension et le partage de l’agir et de l’autonomie avec de nouvelles modalités : la modalité d’une existence numérique qui ne saurait être qu’une version réduite, appauvrie et pour tout dire inférieure, à la modalité analogique. En effet, ce virtuel aura poussé vers des actualisations tout autres.

Cette plateforme numérique, produite conjointement par l’équipe de réalisation, les participant.e.s et les publics, est un projet de recherche-création à part entière. La posture est éminemment pratico-réflexive : réfléchir collectivement au partage de l’autonomie et de l’agir, et donc pratiquer le partage de l’autonomie et de l’agir, la solidarité sociale et la recherche en action.

Ensuite, la question de recherche centrale s’énonce ainsi : de quelles manières le contexte actuel - incluant la pandémie qui s’inscrit à l’ère dudit Anthropocène - permet-il d’expérimenter le partage de l’autonomie et de l’agir?

SYMPOIETICS : THE SHARING OF AGENCY AND AUTONOMY

The title of the first edition of Hexagram’s Interdisciplinary Summit refers to the neologism created by the Canadian Beth Dempster (1998) which she invented as an alternative to urban planning analysis centered on the concept of autopoiesis. The symposium is conceived under this key concept of distribution and sharing, as elaborated further by Donna Haraway (2016): the autonomous subject is a fiction, autonomy, like agency elsewhere, only exists by, with and in the sharing between multiple forces, materialities, processes and entities, human and other-than-human. Sympoietic processes are expressed in collaborations, relations and co-extensions.

The practical organization of the symposium will itself be sympoietic, a pooling of interests between the organizers, publics and participants (academics and artists) to share the risk. In this way, the digital platform proposes to go beyond dissemination by adopting participatory methods. As many others have expressed, it is difficult for us to endorse the idea that "social distancing" is the key to curbing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is therefore necessary and urgent to invent new ways of practicing social solidarity, even though human physical distancing is imposed on all (and rightly so).

Potentially between two waves of the virus, and therefore two confinements, we propose to create once more in these troubled and troubling interstices along with other actants of the planet. In confinement, a large part of activities is expressed digitally: this pandemic is also an informational pandemic. Today, therefore, the emphasis is on the co-extension and sharing of agency and autonomy along with new modalities where digital expressions are not a reduced, impoverished version of “real” life. We don’t consider the digital as underscoring analogue modes of existence. Indeed, the virtual can push us towards quite different actualizations.

The digital platform, produced jointly by the production team, participants and publics, is a full-fledged research-creation project. Our posture is eminently practico-reflexive: to reflect collectively on the sharing of autonomy in action, to practice the sharing of autonomy and of agency, social solidarity and research in action.

The central research question is expressed as follows: how can the current context - including the pandemic happening in the era of the said Anthropocene – allow for experimentations of the sharing of autonomy and agency ?
